Baseball Fall In Doubleheader Action At CCNY On Saturday

New Rochelle, NY - The John Jay baseball team and CCNY were tied in game one before the Beavers walked it off in their half of the seventh and carried that momentum into game two as the Bloodhounds dropped Saturday's CUNYAC twinbill, 6-5, and 12-4. 

With the losses, John Jay falls to 1-28 (0-6 CUNYAC) while CCNY improves to 11-15 (4-2 CUNYAC)

Game 1: CCNY 6, John Jay 5
John Jay carried a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning before CCNY rallied to even the score and win it in the seventh. The Bloodhounds answered an early 1-0 deficit with a run in the second inning as Lucas Perez walked, stole second and scored on Matthew Apostolou's RBI single.

John Jay took a 2-1 lead in the third when Jose Suero singled, stole second and scored on Hayden Tackett's RBI single. After CCNY tied it in the bottom half, the Bloodhounds moved in front 4-2 in the fourth. Perez doubled and scored on Suero's RBI double, and a wild pitch later brought home another run.

The Bloodhounds extended the lead to 5-3 in the sixth when Perez scored again, this time on Suero's RBI single.

CCNY responded in the bottom of the sixth when Frank Cundari hit a two-run home run to center field, tying the game at 5-5.

In the seventh, the Beavers loaded the bases and Rich Cirigliano delivered a walk-off RBI single to right field.

Suero led John Jay, going 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Perez scored three runs and reached base three times. Apostolou added two hits and an RBI.

Cundari had two hits and drove in two runs for CCNY, while Cirigliano recorded the game-winning RBI.

Alex Morrissey went five innings for the Bloodhounds, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out two. Julio Reyes (0-4) allowed the one-run on two while walking two batters and striking out a batter. 

CCNY's Armani Smith tossed five innings, giving up five runs (four earned) while walking six and striking out five batters. Tristan Bausenwein earned the win, throwing two scoreless frames. 
 
Game 2: CCNY 12, John Jay 4
CCNY broke the game open early and pulled away with a five-run fourth inning to complete the sweep.

The Beavers struck first in the second inning on a two-run home run by Frank Cundari. They added three runs in the third, highlighted by a solo home run from Jason Roser and an RBI triple from Erik Rank, to build a 5-0 lead.

John Jay answered in the fourth inning. Jaxen Gangwish hit a solo home run, and Isaac Salazar followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 5-3.

CCNY responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of defensive miscues and getting RBI contributions from James Anderson, John Spallin and Gerard Molinaro, along with a sacrifice fly by Cirigliano, to extend the lead to 10-3.

The Bloodhounds added a run in the fifth on Sebastian Sanchez's RBI double, but CCNY tacked on two more in the sixth on Cirigliano's RBI triple and a run-scoring wild pitch.

Rank earned the win for CCNY, pitching a complete game while allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits.

Gangwish homered for John Jay, while Suero had two hits and scored twice. Sanchez added two hits and an RBI, and Salazar drove in two runs.

Cundari and Roser each homered for CCNY, while Rank collected three hits. Cirigliano finished with two RBIs.

These two teams will square off on Monday, April 20 at Fordham University at 7:30 p.m. for a single, seven-inning contest.
