JAMAICA, N.Y. — The John Jay men's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping York College, 7-0, in CUNYAC action at the York College Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Bloodhounds improve to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while the Cardinals remain winless at 0-8 (0-6 CUNYAC).
John Jay set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the crucial opening point. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of
Samir Ghimire and
Josh Clemas handled Altenor Molien and Gabriela Pirondi, 6-2.
The No. 2 pairing of
Davio Rossilevin and
Manuela Orrego followed with a decisive 6-1 victory over Shady Kalil and Max Moncion, while
Jayden Gonzalez and
Ian Hartigan capped the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot against Munab Hasnain and Franeidy Mauricio.
Carrying momentum into singles play, the Bloodhounds continued their dominance, winning all six matches in straight sets or a super tiebreak. Ghimire led the charge at No. 1 singles, cruising past Molien, 6-2, 6-0. Rossilevin was equally impressive at No. 2, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kalil, while Clemas secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 against Moncion.
At No. 4 singles, Gonzalez added to the tally with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hasnain. The most competitive match of the day came at No. 5, where Hartigan rebounded after dropping the first set to Pirondi, 3-6, before rallying to take the second set, 6-2, and dominating the match tiebreak, 10-4.
David Reynoso rounded out the sweep with a strong 6-0, 6-3 victory over Lawrence Louis at No. 6.
