Softball Sweeps York On Friday Afternoon

Bellerose, NY - The John Jay College softball team bested York College in both ends of a CUNYAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Fields.

The Bloodhounds opened the day with a 30-0 five-inning shutout behind a masterful performance from Lindsay Ogden and followed it with a 28-1 run-rule victory as Adrianna Barragan controlled the circle in game two.

With the sweep, John Jay improved to 13-20 (6-2 CUNYAC) while York dropped to 2-15 (0-6 CUNYAC) on the season.

Across the two games, John Jay totaled 33 hits, 31 RBI, and 58 runs scored while the pitching staff of Ogden and Barragan combined to allow just four hits and one run over 10 innings.

Game 1 – John Jay 30, York 0 (5 innings)
John Jay wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, sending 18 batters to the plate during a 13-run first inning that immediately put the game out of reach.

Kelly Fajardo started the rally by drawing a walk, stealing second, and eventually scoring on an RBI single to right-center by Kendal Bryant. Natalie Graham followed with an RBI single before Sidney Bankston delivered the biggest swing of the inning, ripping a bases-clearing triple down the left field line to plate three and make it 5-0.

The offense kept rolling as Fajardo drew an RBI walk, Natalie Polanco added an RBI single, Bryant worked a bases-loaded walk, and Alyssa Cadolino laced a two-run double down the left field line. Samantha Santana and Bankston were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded to force in runs, and Barragan capped the frame with an RBI single as the Bloodhounds surged ahead 13-0 after one.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Ogden was completely dominant in the circle. The sophomore right-hander struck out the side in both the first and second innings and finished with 12 strikeouts over five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks to improve to 8-10 on the season. She retired 15 of the 17 batters she faced via strikeout or routine outs and never allowed York to generate sustained offense.

John Jay added four more runs in the second behind Bryant's three-run triple and another RBI single from Graham to make it 17-0.

In the third inning, Bryant drew another RBI walk, Kayla Sauers added an RBI walk, Graham lined an RBI single, and Zoe Lowe worked a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead to 21-0.

The fourth inning brought five more runs behind an RBI hit-by-pitch from Sauers, a two-run double by Graham, an RBI reached-on-error by Santana, and another RBI walk from Kiki Iglesias for a commanding 26-0 advantage.

The Bloodhounds closed the scoring in the fifth when Sauers drew another RBI walk, Graham lifted a sacrifice fly, Lowe delivered an RBI single, and Iglesias reached on an error that plated the 30th and final run.

Bryant finished 2-for-3 with five runs scored, six RBI, a triple, three walks, and a stolen base. Graham matched her with a 4-for-4 performance, driving in six runs while scoring three times and adding a double and sacrifice fly.

Fajardo went 4-for-4 with six runs scored, two walks, an RBI, and a stolen base. Bankston added four RBI with her bases-clearing triple, while Sauers drove in three runs and scored three times despite not recording an official at-bat.

Lowe added two hits and two RBI, Cadolino drove in two with her first-inning double, and Iglesias reached base five times while scoring three runs and driving in two.

Game 2 – John Jay 28, York 1 (5 innings)
The Bloodhounds carried that same momentum into game two, scoring 28 runs on 16 hits in another five-inning mercy-rule victory.

John Jay struck first in the opening inning when Alyssa Cadolino brought home Natalie Graham with a sacrifice RBI and Kayla Sauers later walked, allowing Natalie Polanco to score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

The game broke wide open in the second inning as the Bloodhounds exploded for 10 runs.

Sidney Bankston reached on an error and later scored, while RBI contributions came from Natalie Polanco, Cadolino, Sauers, Bankston, Adrianna Barragan, and Zoe Lowe. Cadolino's two-run single and Sauers' RBI double highlighted the inning as John Jay capitalized on defensive miscues and aggressive base running to jump ahead 12-0.

John Jay added another run in the third when Graham scored on a sacrifice groundout by Sauers, and Lowe added a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Kelly Fajardo scored on a York error to make it 15-0.

The fifth inning featured another offensive avalanche as John Jay plated 13 more runs.

Barragan reached on an error to drive in a run before Lowe followed with an RBI single. Fajardo added an RBI single, Polanco ripped a two-run double, and Graham capped the scoring with a bases-clearing triple that plated three more runs and pushed the lead to 28-0.

York avoided the shutout in the bottom of the fifth when M. Abreu tripled and later scored, but Barragan quickly shut the door to secure the win.

Graham once again led the offense, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored, a double, a triple, and an RBI. Polanco also starred, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Lowe went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Fajardo crossed the plate four times and added two hits and an RBI, while Bankston scored a team-high five runs and stole three bases. Cadolino drove in three runs, Sauers added two RBI, and Barragan helped herself with two RBI at the plate.

Barragan also earned the win in the circle, improving to 2-4 after tossing all five innings and allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out four and walking one.

The Bloodhounds will close out the 2026 regular season on May 1 as they host Hunter at the Bahoshy Softball Field on the campus of Fordham University.

First-pitch is slated at 4:00 p.m.
