Bloodhounds Drop Non-Conference Tilt At FDU-Florham On Tuesday Afternoon

Madison, NJ - The John Jay baseball team was held to two hits on Tuesday afternoon as FDU-Florham scored once in the fourth and added an insurance run in the eighth to secure a 2-0 victory. The Bloodhounds dropped to 1-21 on the season, while the Devils improved to 12-14.

John Jay generated its best offensive opportunity in the third inning when Matthew Apostolou and Jaxen Gangwish delivered back-to-back singles to put two runners aboard with one out. However, FDU-Florham escaped the threat with a fielder's choice and a caught stealing to keep the game scoreless. For Gangwish, it marked his 99th career hit.

The Devils broke through in the bottom of the fourth. After a single and a stolen base by Xavier Diaz and a walk to Andrew Parisi, Matthew Bond singled through the left side to bring home the game's first run and give FDU-Florham a 1-0 lead.

John Jay's pitching staff kept the contest within reach. Starter Saujan Christie worked 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with two walks. Michael Sgobbo followed with a strong relief outing, tossing 4.2 innings and surrendering only one run while striking out one despite taking the loss. Alex Morrissey worked an inning of relief.

FDU-Florham added an insurance run in the eighth inning when John Rolli tripled to left-center and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Peter Longo, extending the Devils' lead to 2-0.

Offensively, John Jay's only hits came from Gangwish and Apostolou, while Hayden Tackett also reached after being hit by a pitch.

FDU-Florham was paced by John Rolli, who went 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while Xavier Diaz added two hits. Bond finished with the game-winning RBI, and Longo recorded the insurance RBI on the sacrifice fly.

Dominick Galeotafiore earned the win with two scoreless innings, while the Devils' bullpen combined to allow just two hits over the final seven frames. CJ Bates closed the door in the ninth for his first save.

The Bloodhounds will be in action on Wednesday, April 8, as they will travel to Kings Point, NY, to tangle with the Merchant Marine Academy. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
