Baseball Splits Regular Season Finale Against Lehman On Senior Day

Bronx, NY – The John Jay College baseball team split its regular season finale against Lehman College on Saturday afternoon, posting a 5-1 victory in game two following a 7-1 setback in the opener.

The Bloodhounds finish the regular season at 2-35 (1-10 CUNYAC) while Lehman stands at 5-20 (3-9 CUNYAC).

Before the start of game two, the Bloodhounds recognized their seven seniors.

Game 1: Lehman 7, John Jay 1 (8 innings)
Game one featured a tightly contested pitchers' duel through seven innings before Lehman broke things open late.

John Jay struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning when James Horodyski singled, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a balk to give the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead.

Lehman answered in the sixth inning as Carlos Silfa tied the game with a solo home run to right field, evening the score at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked until the eighth, when Lehman erupted for six runs. Taking advantage of a leadoff walk and a John Jay error, the Lightning strung together timely hits. Argenis Sanchez delivered an RBI single; Leniel Rivera added a two-run single, and Jediel Peguero capped the inning with a two-run home run to left, pushing the lead to 7-1.

DeShawn Ansah-Pena earned the win with a complete-game effort, allowing one run on seven hits while working out of multiple jams.

For Lehman, Silfa finished 2-for-3 with a home run, while Rivera and Peguero each drove in two runs.

John Jay collected seven hits, with Sebastian Sanchez leading the way with two, while Jayden Dixon added a double. The Bloodhounds left 11 runners on base in the contest.

Game 2: John Jay 5, Lehman 1
The Bloodhounds responded in game two, using a four-run sixth inning and a strong performance on the mound to secure their first CUNYAC win of the season.

Lehman once again struck first, as Leniel Rivera led off the game with a solo home run to left field for a 1-0 advantage.

John Jay threatened early but broke through in the fourth inning. Sebastian Sanchez reached on a walk and came around to score on an RBI double by Hayden Tackett, tying the game at 1-1.

The turning point came in the sixth inning. After Tackett singled and stole second, and James Horodyski worked a walk, Jayden Dixon reached to load the bases. Matthew Apostolou was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run, followed by another hit-by-pitch to Jaxen Gangwish to extend the lead. Alex Daly then delivered a two-run single, capping a four-run frame and giving John Jay a 5-1 cushion.

Morrissey took over from there, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

At the plate, Tackett led John Jay with two hits, a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Jose Suero also recorded two hits, while Daly drove in two runs. Sanchez reached base four times via walks and scored once.

For Lehman, Rivera finished 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Hecnel Guzman and Steven Santos each recorded doubles.

The Bloodhounds will await their opponent in the upcoming 2026 CUNYAC Baseball Tournament, which is set to commence on Tuesday, May 5.
