Defending Three-TIme CUNYAC Champions Open 2026 Postseason With 10-1 Run-Rule Triumph Over No. 3 Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY - The No. 3 seed John Jay College softball team erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning to pull away from No. 4 seed Brooklyn College, 10-1, in six innings on Thursday afternoon of the 2026 CUNYAC Softball Championship at the Brooklyn College Softball Field.

With the victory, the Bloodhounds improved to 16-20 overall behind another dominant outing from pitcher Lindsay Ogden, who tossed a complete-game five-hitter while striking out seven batters across six innings.

The Bloodhounds will take on No. 4 Hunter College in the winner's bracket, which will commence at approximately 6:00 p.m. this evening.

John Jay capitalized on Brooklyn miscues throughout the afternoon, scoring nine of its 10 runs unearned while taking advantage of four Bulldogs errors. The Bloodhounds were patient at the plate as well, drawing eight walks and consistently applying pressure on the basepaths.

The Bloodhounds struck first in the opening inning after Kendal Bryant reached safely and eventually came around to score on an error during a fielder's choice off the bat of Natalie Graham, giving John Jay an early 1-0 advantage.

Ogden completed a personal milestone in the top of the second, as she posted her third strike out the game, which marked her 350th career strikeout.

John Jay added to its lead in the second inning. After Kayla Sauers reached and advanced into scoring position, Bryant lined an RBI single to right field to make it 2-0. Moments later, Alyssa Cadolino worked a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0.

Brooklyn responded in the fourth inning when K. Young tripled to right center and later scored on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 3-1. The Bulldogs threatened several times throughout the contest, collecting five hits and drawing four walks, but Ogden consistently escaped trouble. She stranded six runners over the final three innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the sixth.

The game remained close until the explosive sixth inning, when John Jay broke things open with seven runs. Sauers opened the frame with a walk before Kelly Fajardo singled to center field to ignite the rally. Bryant later reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, pushing the lead to 5-1. Cadolino followed with a two-run single to left field, and Sidney Bankston delivered the biggest blow of the day with a three-run double to left-center field to cap the scoring.

Bryant led the Bloodhounds offensively, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cadolino finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two walks, while Bankston drove in three runs with her sixth-inning double. Fajardo and Sauers each scored twice in the win.

Ogden improved to 11-10 on the season after allowing just one earned run while scattering five hits and striking out seven on 102 pitches.

For Brooklyn, Vida Rodriguez paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance that included a triple, while Katelyn Young added a triple and scored the Bulldogs' lone run. Haylee Burleigh also chipped in with a double.

Brooklyn starter Kureshma Dhanraj was charged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run, as the Bulldogs' defense committed four errors behind her.
