New York, NY – The John Jay women's soccer team turned in a strong defensive performance while generating several opportunities on the offensive end as the Bloodhounds battled Kean Jersey City to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island Field 70.
With the result, John Jay moves to 1-4-1 on the season, while Kean Jersey City stands at 3-2-1.

Anina Gut anchored the Bloodhounds' defensive effort, making five saves to record her first shutout of the season. John Jay's back line of

Bella Steele helped keep the visitors off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.
Kean Jersey City applied pressure early, earning three corner kicks within the opening eight minutes. Gut was tested for the first time in the sixth minute and came up with the save before stopping another attempt in the 12th minute.
John Jay began creating opportunities of its own as the half progressed.
Annmarie Russo put the Bloodhounds' first shot on goal in the 15th minute before
Ava Lopez forced a pair of saves from Kean Jersey City goalkeeper Jessica Martin later in the period.
Gut finished the opening half with four saves as the teams went into halftime scoreless.
The Bloodhounds increased their offensive pressure after the break, outshooting Kean Jersey City, 6-1, over the final 45 minutes.
Sofia Soler put an attempt on target just over five minutes into the second half, while
Genesis Quito-Rodas and Soler each had shots blocked during a stretch of sustained John Jay pressure.
Lopez nearly broke the deadlock in the 67th minute, putting another attempt on frame that Martin turned aside. John Jay continued to push forward, with Russo having a shot blocked in the 74th minute before the Bloodhounds earned their third corner kick of the second half.
Kean Jersey City's lone shot of the second half came in the 77th minute, when Gut stopped Gabriella Cardona to preserve the shutout. Soler generated John Jay's final scoring opportunity in the 83rd minute, but Martin made the save to keep the contest scoreless.
John Jay finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Lopez led the Bloodhounds with four shots, placing three on target, while Soler recorded three attempts with two on goal. Russo added two shots, including one on target.
Martin finished with six saves for Kean Jersey City.
The Bloodhounds will be back in action on Saturday morning as they welcome Pratt to Randall's Island - Field 74 for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
