New York, NY - Sofia Soler and
Natalie Mack each scored twice as the John Jay women's soccer team turned in a dominant first-half performance en route to a 4-0 victory over Centenary University on Wednesday evening at Randall's Island.
The Bloodhounds improved to 2-4-1 on the season with their second victory in their last three matches, while the Cyclones fell to 0-7-0.
John Jay controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Centenary 25-6, including a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Bloodhounds did all of their scoring in the opening 45 minutes, building a 4-0 halftime advantage.
Soler opened the scoring in the ninth minute.
Yamile Bastidas helped set up the opportunity, with Soler finishing at the 8:50 mark to give John Jay a 1-0 advantage.
The Bloodhounds continued to apply pressure, and Soler struck again in the 25th minute.
Katy Shurson provided the assist as Soler completed her brace and doubled the John Jay advantage to 2-0.
John Jay added two more goals before halftime, both courtesy of Mack. The 2025 CUNYAC Player of the Year Mack entered the contest as a substitute in the 21st minute and needed less than 12 minutes to find the back of the net.
Nicole Savage and Shurson combined to set up Mack's first goal at 32:19, pushing the Bloodhounds' lead to 3-0.
The Bloodhounds weren't finished. With less than two minutes remaining in the opening half,
Priana Lazerson connected with Mack, who buried her second goal of the evening at 43:13 to send John Jay into halftime with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
John Jay's attack overwhelmed the Cyclones throughout the opening period, generating 20 shots and 13 shots on goal while limiting Centenary to just one shot.
Soler finished with a match-high seven shots, including four on goal, while Mack was perfect with two goals on three shots on goal in just 24 minutes of action. Shurson recorded a pair of assists while adding three shots. Bastidas, Savage and Lazerson each contributed an assist.
Brithany Zhibri Xique provided another spark off the bench, placing all three of her shots on target.
Ava Lopez added three shots, including two on goal.
The Bloodhounds' defense protected the four-goal advantage throughout the second half to secure the clean sheet. John Jay used all three of its goalkeepers in the victory.
Anina Gut started and made one save over the opening 50:31,
Gianna Duarte stopped two shots in 30:08 of action, and Delaney "Nyxx" Butler made one save over the final 9:21.
Together, the trio stopped all four Centenary shots on goal.
Centenary goalkeeper Naveah O'Keefe finished with 12 saves as John Jay continually tested the Cyclones' defense. Elizabeth Fogarty led Centenary with three shots, including two on goal.
The defending CUNYAC champions open league-play on Saturday as they welcome Lehman to Randall's Island - Field 70.
