Keene, NH - The John Jay College men's soccer team continued its early-season non-conference slate on Saturday afternoon, falling to Ramapo College, 4-0, at the Owl Athletic Complex on the campus of Keene State for the Keene State Kickoff Classic. The Bloodhounds move to 0-2 on the season, while the Roadrunners improve to 2-0.
John Jay goalkeeper Davio Rossi-Levin was tested early and kept the Bloodhounds within striking distance throughout the opening half. He made four saves over 76:33 of action before
Vlad Kuryliv played the final 13:27 in net.
Ramapo generated the first scoring opportunity in the fourth minute before Rossi-Levin registered his first save at the 6:06 mark.
The Bloodhounds answered with their first chance in the 10th minute.
Miguel Espinal put an attempt on target from the center of the box, but Ramapo goalkeeper Zachary Natt made the save.
The Roadrunners broke through in the 27th minute when David Oh netted his second goal of the season to give Ramapo a 1-0 advantage. John Jay nearly found the equalizer less than five minutes later.
Alejandro De Jesus put a shot on frame at 30:47, but Natt was there for his second save of the half.
Rossi-Levin kept the deficit at one heading into halftime, turning away Lucas Mielnikiewicz in the 38th minute before denying Jorge Espinosa Jr. in the 43rd. Ramapo held a 9-2 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes, but John Jay placed both of its first-half attempts on goal.
The Roadrunners extended their lead five minutes into the second half when Dino Radoncic scored at 50:01. John Jay continued to look for a response.
Blake Paves sent an attempt wide in the 60th minute before
Sekou Sheriff fired high at 62:40. Ramapo added its third goal at 65:15 as Espinosa Jr. finished a chance off an assist from David Lopes. Geremi Gonzalez closed out the scoring at 80:45 for the final 4-0 margin.
Espinal generated a final opportunity for the Bloodhounds in the 87th minute, sending his attempt just high and left. Ramapo finished with a 21-5 advantage in total shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. The Roadrunners also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. John Jay was whistled for 10 fouls compared to nine for Ramapo.
Espinal led the Bloodhounds offensively with two shots, including one on goal. De Jesus recorded John Jay's other shot on target, while Sheriff and Paves each registered an attempt. Rossi-Levin finished with four saves against seven shots on goal during his 76-plus minutes in net. Kuryliv made his first appearance of the season and played the final 13:27.
Oh and Radoncic each scored their second goals of the season for Ramapo, while Espinosa Jr. and Gonzalez registered their first. Lopes collected the lone assist of the match.
The Bloodhounds conclude the two-match Kickoff Classic on Sunday as they take on the host Owls at noon.
