Jose Miranda is in his second season as head coach of the John Jay College men's cross country program after being named to the position in June of 2023. Miranda spent two seasons as head coach of the Yeshiva University men’s cross country team after being elevated to the position on February 1, 2018.
In 2023, Miranda guided the men's program to a second-place finish at the CUNYAC Championships, their highest finish since 2014. The Bloodhounds scored 73 points, finishing the 8K race with a total time of 2:36.34 (31:18 average time).
Additionally, Jack Treacher was the top finisher for Bloodhounds, placing third overall and was selected as the 2023 Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year.
On the women's side, the team also claimed second-place honors at the 2023 Cross Country Championships, notching 44 points and was a mere five points behind Hunter as John Jay posted a total time of 2:34.42 (average time of 30:56). This marked the fifth time since 2023 that the Bloodhounds have finished second at the championship race and first since 2019.
Five Bloodhounds went on to receive CUNYAC All-Star selections under Miranda - Eva Garcia (All-Star | Sportsmanship Team), Morgan Boyle (All-Star), Jennifer Herrera (All-Star), Heavenly Evangelista (All-Star), and Skylah Nix (All-Star).
At Yeshiva, he guided the men's team to a pair of first-place finishes, including the opening meet at the Baruch College Invitational, in which the Maccabees notched 46 points while two harriers finished among the top ten and four among the top-20. At the York College (N.Y) Invitational back on September 23, 2018, Yeshiva took home the team honors, after two runners placed ninth and tenth, respectively, while having a total of four harriers place among the top-25.
No stranger to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), Miranda was a four-year member of the Hunter College Hawks cross country and track and field teams.
Miranda helped lead the Hawks to three straight CUNYAC Cross Country Championships while earning two CUNYAC All-Star honors and qualifying each year for the NCAA Regional Championships. His best performance came during his junior campaign, crossing the finish line with a time of 28:24.1 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
In addition to his coaching duties, Miranda is a Senior Staff Attorney at the International Refugee Assistance Project, where he provides direct legal representation to refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced persons globally.
Miranda earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies from Hunter in addition to receiving Macaulay Honors College University Scholar, cum laude, in 2013. He went on to attend Columbia Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 2018.
