Hirofumi Takeuchi

Hirofumi Takeuchi is in his second season as assistant coach of the men’s soccer program at John Jay College. His primary role is assisting head coach Stavros Zomopoulos in organizing and running team practices.

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Takeuchi is no stranger to the men’s soccer program at John Jay. Takeuchi lettered for the Bloodhounds for two seasons where he recorded three goals as a midfielder and sweeper. And he played a pivotal role in John Jay’s 2004 campaign which made the conference championship game. He was named a CUNYAC first team All-Star that season.

He graduated magna cum laude from John Jay with a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology in 2006, and graduated magna cum laude with a master’s degree from John Jay in 2007.

Upon his graduation in 2006, Takeuchi earned the prestigious John Jay athletic scholarship award which goes to one graduating student-athlete with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average who will be attending graduate school.

Prior to coming to John Jay Takeuchi attended Alfred State in Alfred, N.Y. where he earned an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts Social Science in 2004 was a member of the Pioneers as a midfielder for two seasons (2002-03). He also attended SUNY New Paltz for one summer (2002) upon coming to the United States.

Takeuchi attended Ryogoku High School in Tokyo, Japan and graduated there in 2001. He was a member of their boy’s soccer team for three seasons.

Takeuchi resides in Ozone Park, N.Y.
