Casey Sommers is in her sixth season as head coach of the women's soccer team. In addition, she was named the Business Development Manager in April 2017.
In the fall of 2018, the Bloodhounds had another record breaking season, making it to the CUNYAC Championship game for the first time since 2011. They completed the season with their best record in conference play (5-1-0) and most overall wins with a final regular season record of (10-5-1). Their success on the pitch awarded them with an invitation to the ECAC Championships for the first time in program history. At seasons end, the conference recognized freshmen Anneliese Tucci, Katie Healy and Brittany Shaneberger as All-Conference players, and for the second year in a row, CUNYAC Rookie of the Year went to a member of the John Jay team, Gianna Russo.
In 2017, the Bloodhounds were primed for a comeback season and managed to break the school record for regular season wins with a record of 8-9-1 (4-1-1 CUNYAC). The freshman class came in strong and helped to guide the Bloodhounds back to the CUNYAC Championships. Freshman Kim Robledo was awarded CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, along with First Team All-Conference recognition for May Dempsey and Camila Vasquez. Kelli Doherty was once again recognized on the Sportsmanship Team.
Despite losing two All Conference players from the Bloodhounds defense, in 2016, the program had continued growth in the win column. The Bloodhounds continued to lay the foundation for the future with strong play and leadership from All Conference Defender May Dempsey and Kelli Doherty, who was selected for the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team. The Bloodhounds narrowly missed the 4th seed playoff spot with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Lehman College.
In her second season, Sommers led the program back to the CUNYAC semifinals with the help of stellar campaigns by second team All-Conference defender Kim Guzman, and second team All-Conference GK, Andrea Antoni. Sommers' recruiting efforts paid off quickly, with a team led by underclassman.
Prior to her full time position at John Jay, Sommers was the Youth Program Coordinator for the NY Cosmos Training & Development Program based out of Garden City, Long Island. She organized all aspects of the NY Cosmos TDP events and programs including camps, clinics, individual & team training, and game day events which take place all over Long Island and throughout the five boroughs.
Sommers was an Assistant Coach at Fordham University from 2005-2014, where she oversaw recruiting efforts and player development, assisted in the planning and preparation of practices and game preparation, organized social, marketing, networking, and instructional events on behalf of the team and the university, and created the Women's Soccer Alumnae Program. During her nine-year tenure, the Rams advanced to four A-10 Conference Championships, finished in the top six in the conference five times, and finished second in the conference twice.
In 2014, Sommers was the U9 Head Coach and U16 Trainer for the Kosmos Football Club in Breezy Point, NY, where she was responsible for training and development field players and goal keepers, preparing and managing practices and game day preparation, encouraging teamwork and the development of life skills, and acting as a college advisor.
Sommers played Division I soccer at Fordham University from 1999-2002, serving as team Captain in 2000-2001. She graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Minor in Business. Sommers also worked as a Paralegal at Cohen & Gresser, LLP in Manhattan from 2004-2010, as well as the Law Offices of Charles D. Soule in Brooklyn as a Paralegal and Office Manager from 2011-2013.
