Juan Martes

Juan Martes begins his second season with the John Jay cross country program. In 2024, he was elevated to Associate Head Coach by head coach Jose Miranda.
 
In 2023, Martes helped mentored the men's program to a second-place finish at the CUNYAC Championships, their highest finish since 2014. The Bloodhounds scored 73 points, finishing the 8K race with a total time of 2:36.34 (31:18 average time).
 
Additionally, Jack Treacher was the top finisher for Bloodhounds, placing third overall and was selected as the 2023 Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year.
 
On the women's side, the team also claimed second-place honors at the 2023 Cross Country Championships, notching 44 points and was a mere five points behind Hunter as John Jay posted a total time of 2:34.42 (average time of 30:56). This marked the fifth time since 2023 that the Bloodhounds have finished second at the championship race and first since 2019.
 
Five Bloodhounds went on to receive CUNYAC All-Star selections under the tutelage of Martes - Eva Garcia (All-Star | Sportsmanship Team), Morgan Boyle (All-Star), Jennifer Herrera (All-Star), Heavenly Evangelista (All-Star), and Skylah Nix (All-Star).
 
Coach Martes brings a special skill set focused on distance races (5k through marathon). A USATF coach and certified USATF Cross Country specialist, Martes has over ten years of coaching experience.
 
Martes has competed in the 1600m and 3200m in high school and is also a distance coach for multiple ages groups, at a major run specialty company in New York City.
 
Coach Martes holds degrees in Economics and Marketing.
