Miguel Escalante was named Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the John Jay women's swim team in August 2022 after serving as Assistant Aquatics Director for the 2021-22 season.Â
Last season, three swimmers earned Academic All-District Team Honors, selected by College Sports Communicators, while four student-athletes were named CUNYAC All-Stars. Under Escalante's tutelage, Miranda Perez repeated as 50y Freestyle champion. In 2023, the Bloodhounds took the third overall at the CUNYAC championships.Â
Â
Before joining the Bloodhounds, he spent five years as the Aquatics Director at BronxWorks, a nonprofit in the South Bronx, where he led various programs, including water aerobics for adults and seniors, high-intensity water aerobics for athletes and multi-sport groups, and swimming lessons for underserved communities.Â
Â
Since 2012, he has also served as Assistant Aquatics Director and Head Swim Coach at Children's Aid Milbank Pool, where he manages a USA Swimming-sanctioned club team, facilitates swim meets, and helps athletes achieve championship qualifications for events like Silvers, Junior Olympics, Zones, and Senior Mets.
Â
Escalante is the Chief Executive Officer of Splash Fit Swim Club, where he oversees all facets of the organization, including budget management, revenue generation, personnel, fundraising, payroll, and the training and certification of swim instructors and coaches.Â
Â
Under Escalante's leadership, Splash Fit's "Learn-To-Swim" program was promoted at the NY Governor's State of the State NY SWIMS initiative. He was invited to speak at the Drown Prevention Initiative Task Force, reflecting his dedication to water safety and community engagement. Splash Fit has forged key partnerships with nonprofits to offer affordable swim programs to minorities and children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Â
In addition to his roles within the swimming community, Escalante has taught swim lessons to children and adults for over 15 years.Â
