Eder Mathelier is in his second season as the head coach of the men's and women's volleyball teams.

"Eder brings an extensive coaching background to John Jay and we are looking forward to bringing him onboard," Athletic Director Carol Kashow said. "With his experience and success at all different levels, we feel he can resurrect our volleyball program."

Mathelier is no stranger to CUNY as he has previously served as BMCC's head women's coach from 2006-2011. Prior to BMCC, he was the head coach and assistant coach of the men's and women's teams at New York City Tech. During this time, Mathelier's leadership led his team to the highest winning percentage since 1998. As a result, he was awarded Coach of the Year in 2008.

Additionally, he has been the head coach of the Allstarr Volleyball club, a USA Junior National Volleyball team, for the last three years. In 2010-2011, his team finished in first in the Bronze Bracket DC Tournament and second in the Gold Bracket North Eastern Winterfest Tournament.
