Roadrunners Escape Bloodhounds

New York, N.Y. — The Bloodhounds failed to keep up with the Roadrunners as John Jay loses its home opener 74-59 to Ramapo College in front of a packed Doghouse on Tuesday evening.
 
The loss drops John Jay to 1-2, while Ramapo is now 3-0 this season.
 
After a first half that saw seven ties and 30 fouls called (18 for John Jay, 12 for Ramapo), the Bloodhounds managed a 36-35 lead at the break.
 
John Jay sparred with the bigger Roadrunners for the first couple of minutes in the second half, and while still leading 45-43 at the 13:49 mark, Ramapo went on an 8-0 run to take a 51-45 lead to take the lead for good.
 
Ramapo outscored John Jay 39-23 in the second half while limiting John Jay to 26 percent shooting in the second half.
 
The Bloodhounds were led byfreshman Matt Collins (Glendale, NY/ Christ the King) with 12 points, as he was the lone Bloodhound to reach the double-figures in scoring.
 
Fellow freshman and teammate Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY/ Alfred E. Smith) recorded eight points, while Alex Valerio (Flushing, NY/ Francis Lewis), Dustin Yeates (Brooklyn, NY/ South Side), and Godfrey Mascall (Brooklyn, NY/ Paul Roberson) each had seven in the loss.
 
Robert Pierce (Far Rockaway, NY/ Benjamin Cardozo) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the loss for John Jay, who were out rebounded 51-35, including 22-14 on the offensive end.
 
Omar Alston (Carteret, NJ/ Carteret) paced Ramapo with 22 points and 17 rebounds, while Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ/ St. Anthony’s) had 18.
 
The Bloodhounds will return to action on Fri. Nov. 24 against North Carolina Wesleyan in day one of the Gallaudet University holiday tournament at 8 p.m.
