John Jay Falls to William Paterson

New York, N.Y. — The John Jay men’s basketball team was outdone 47-18 in the paint, and saw their opponent shoot 55 percent from the field as the Bloodhounds were defeated by William Paterson 77-45 in a non conference affair at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening.
 
John Jay had the lead momentarily in the opening minutes, but the defending New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) champions went on a 13-3 run to turn a 12-12 game into a 25-15 lead, and William Paterson was never threatened giving John Jay their biggest loss of the season.
 
William Paterson led 36-23 at halftime behind a 62 percent shooting clip in the opening stanza.
 
The Pioneers opened the second half on a 25-6 run to take a 61-29 lead to put the game out of reach. William Paterson led by as much as 36 in the second half before settling for the 32 point decision.
 
The Bloodhounds were paced by Kelvin Luna (Corona, NY/ Flushing) and Dustin Yeates (Brooklyn, NY/ South Side) with 13 points a piece, while Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, NJ/ Teaneck) paced William Paterson with 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting. John Rother (Sodus Point, NY/ Sodus Central) had 19 on 8-for-8 shooting.
 
The Pioneers out rebounded John Jay 40-24 and held the Bloodhounds to 33 percent shooting in the contest.
 
John Jay will next be in action on Tue. Dec. 5 at Baruch College for the 2006-07 conference opener at 7:30 p.m.
