New York, N.Y. — The John Jay College women’s volleyball team were swept at the Doghouse on Tuesday evening as they fell to Hunter College in three straight (30-27, 30-20, 30-18).
The loss drops John Jay’s overall record to 2-5 (1-2 CUNYAC), while Hunter now stands at 4-4 (3-0 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds went nip and tuck with the Hawks for the early portion of the first half. But Hunter took command midway through the first game.
The Hawks led by as many as seven (21-14) in the first game. But the host Bloodhounds came roaring back and got the lead to within two (25-23) late in the game.
But Hunter rallied off four straight points for game point (29-24) en route to victory.
In the next two games, the visiting Hawks had command from the outset and led wire to wire.
Sara Altamirano (Bronx, NY/ John F. Kennedy) led the way for John Jay with seven kills, three assists, and six digs, while Maria Pacino (Bronx, NY/ Maria Regina), Jennifer Gonzalez (Bronx, NY/ Jane Addams Voactional), and Andrea Medina (Brentwood, NY/ Brentwood) had three kills a piece. Pacino also contributed with eight assists and six digs, while Gonzalez had nine digs in the loss.
Yasmine Daniels (Brooklyn, NY/ Midwood) led the way for Hunter with nine kills, while Safiya Solomon (Mount Vernon, NY/ Pelham Memorial) had seven kills and two service aces.
John Jay returns to action on Thu Sept. 21 against Western Connecticut State at 6 p.m. at the Doghouse.
