Women's Volleyball Finishes off Tournament with 1-3 Record

Poughkeepsie, N.Y.- The John Jay College women's volleyball team finished a two-day tournament losing to New Jersey City University (NJCU) and Vassar College on Saturday afternoon to finish the tournament with a 1-3 at the Vassar College tournament.

After going 1-1 on Friday eveing, defeating Mitchell College in three straight and losing to Ramapo College in as many, the Bloodhounds started their Saturday morning with a loss to NJCU by scores of 30-8, 30-19, 30-22, followed by a loss to the host school by scores of 30-10, 30-11, 30-11.

The weekends activities puts John Jay at 4-12 on the season.

In the first match of the day the Bloodhounds were led by Jennifer Gonzalez (Bronx, NY/ Jane Addams Vocational) and Andrea Medina (Brentwood, NY/ Brentwood) with four kills and one block a piece.

Fellow teammate Maria Pacino (Bronx, NY/ Maria Regina) contributed eight assists and six digs, while Jennifer Tiburcio (New York, NY/ Louis D. Brandeis) and Tatyana Yachnik (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan/ Laffayette) had two kills each in the loss. Tiburcio also chpped in with six digs and a service ace, while Yachnik had three digs.

Against Vassar Katherine Higuera-McCoy (Jamaica, NY/ St. Francis Prep) recorded a team-high three kills in the match, while Tiburcio pulled out nine digs to lead the Bloodhounds.

Medina added six digs, while Pacino offered six assists.

John Jay will return to action on Tue. Oct. 3 at Lehman College at 7 p.m.
