Bloodhounds Fall Hard at Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, N.Y.-- Despite a new career-high 28 points from Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY/ Alfred E Smith) the John Jay men's basketball team dropped a 24 point decision losing at Medgar Evers College 78-54 on Friday night. Mason shot 11-for-22 from the floor, including 5-for-11 from behind the arc, to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Godfrey Mascall (Brooklyn, NY/ Paul Roberson) added 10 points for the Bloodhounds who are now 3-13 (2-4 CUNYAC).

John Jay got out of the gate quickly and took a 16-8 lead 7:30 into the contest, but the host Cougars came storming back. Medgar Evers went on a 17-5 run over the next several minutes to take a lead and never trail again.

After John Jay narrowed the lead to one (25-24) at the 5:57 mark, the Cougars ended the half on a 15-3 run to go into the locker room with a 40-27 lead.

Medgar Evers would gradually increase the lead in the second half and the Bloodhounds would never get to within 10 points of the lead in the stanza.

The Cougars led by as much as 25 before the game ended.
