Offensive Attack Lifts CCNY over Bloodhounds

New York, N.Y. – The John Jay men’s basketball team dropped their first conference home game of the year as the Bloodhounds fell to CCNY 78-59 at the Doghouse on Wednesday.
 
The loss drops John Jay to 1-11 (0-3 CUNYAC), while CCNY is now 5-6 (2-1 CUNYAC).
           
The visiting Beavers charged out to a 25 – 8 lead eight minutes into the contest and led throughout.
 
The Bloodhounds mounted a rally midway through the first half. And with John Jay still behind 27-14, the Bloodhounds went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to five with 2:41 to play capped by a driving lay-up by Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY/ Alfred E. Smith), who recorded 18 points and six rebounds in the contest.
 
But CCNY would reclaim a double-figure lead before going into the locker room with a 34-28 halftime advantage.
 
The Beavers then went on an 11-3 run to take a 45-31 lead five minutes into the second half. CCNY led by as much as 25 in the second half before it was done.
 
Godfrey Mascall (Brooklyn, NY/ Paul Roberson) recorded a team-high 19 points and six rebounds. Emilio Gomez (Moca, Dominican Republic/ William H Taft) dished out a team-high five assists, while Mascall, Mason, and Yuri Babayev (Fresh Meadows, NY/ John Bowne) had six rebounds a piece. Babayev also added nine points in the contest for John Jay.
           
Taleek Norman (Bronx, NY/San Jacinto CC) paced the Beavers with 26 points and eight rebounds in the contest, while Idris Agbaje (Brooklyn, NY/ Kingsborough CC) shot seven-for-seven from the field for 15 points. James Boddie (Bronx, NY/ Jane Adams HS) added 14 points in the contest for CCNY.
                       
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Jan. 6 at Lehman College at 2:15 p.m.
