Women’s Volleyball Cruises Past Medgar Evers

New York, N.Y. --- Anjanette Perez slammed eight service aces during a match changing 19-0 rally in the first set to propel the John Jay women’s volleyball team to its third consecutive conference win as the Bloodhounds defeated Medgar Evers College 3-0 at the Doghouse in women’s volleyball on Tuesday evening.
 
John Jay won by scores of 25-6, 25-13, 25-12 to improve to 7-18 (4-4 CUNYAC) on the season.
 
Collectively John Jay had 20 service aces in the contest, with Tatyana Yachnik adding five to the total. She also contributed a game-high five kills in the contest.
 
Erica Lee recorded four kills and offered 10 assists for John Jay.
 
John Jay trailed 3-0 in the very early stages of the first set, but quickly rallied back with four points to lead 4-3. And with the match knotted at 5-5, John Jay rallied 19 in a row to take a 23-5 lead behind Perez’s eight aces. For the contest Perez had eight aces and three assists.
 
John Jay was never seriously threatened in the latter two sets of the contest. The Bloodhounds spurted out to a 3-0 advantage in the second set and increased its lead the rest of the way, while the third set saw more of the same.
 
Medgar Evers led early in the third set and held a 3-2 advantage initially. And with the game tied at 4-4, the Bloodhounds raced away with 10 straight points to go up 14-4 to cruise to the win.
 
Medgar Evers was led by Dixil DeFreitas with two kills, while Ashley Rowe and Lennise Noralez had 10 digs each.
 
John Jay returns to action on Tue. Oct. 28 at Lehman College at 7 p.m.
