Women’s Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Maritime in Final Regular Season Home Match of 2008

New York, N.Y. --- The John Jay women’s volleyball team jumped out to big leads in all three sets tonight and never trailed in any match en route to a win as the John Jay women’s volleyball team defeated SUNY Maritime in three straight matches at the Doghouse on Thursday evening.
 
The Bloodhounds defeated the Privateers 25-8, 25-18, 25-13 to improve to 8-19 on the season.
 
John Jay scored the first two points in the opening set and led 15-1 midway through en route to winning. The Bloodhounds then raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set to catapult to victory. Then in the third John Jay led 5-0 to finish off the sweep as John Jay closed out its 2008 home schedule to finish 5-8 at the Doghouse this season.
 
The Bloodhounds attack was led by Andrea Medina who had a game-high nine kills along with three service aces and five digs. Fellow teammate Tatyana Yachnik added a half dozen kills, while Zadoora Carson and Justyna Kopec each had five kills as the Bloodhounds had 30 kills tonight. Erica Lee set 24 assists and had four digs for the Bloodhounds.
 
John Jay also landed 19 service aces in the contest, including a game-high five each from Kopec and Katherine Higuera-McCoy. Crystal Reyes added four in the contest, while Anjanette Perez added a team-high seven digs for John Jay.
 
SUNY Maritime was paced by Lilliana Lopez and Natalie Jackson with three each. Lopez also added a game-high 10 digs in the contest.
 
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Nov. 1 for a quad match at Stevenson Univ. starting with a match against Stevenson at 10 a.m.
