Women's Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Baruch in Conference Quarterfinals

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women’s volleyball team was defeated on the road on Tuesday evening as the Bloodhounds lost 3-0 to Baruch College in the quarterfinal round of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) women’s volleyball championship.
 
With the loss, the Bloodhounds’ season has come to an end. John Jay finishes with an overall record of 8-23 (4-5 CUNYAC) and a sixth place finish in CUNYAC play. Baruch advances into the semifinal round and will play on Friday evening. The scores were 25-10, 25-15, 25-15
 
In tonight’s match the Bloodhounds had a team co-high five kills from Justyna Kopec and Andrea Medina with five each. Medina also chipped in with a team-high 11 digs.
 
Fellow teammates Tatyana Yachnik and Erica Lee added a pair of kills each for John Jay. Lee also contributed with six digs in the contest, while Anjanette Perez had nine assists.
 
In the opening set, John Jay raced out to a 4-1 lead. But Baruch stormed right back with a 6-0 rally to take a 7-4 lead and led the rest of the way.  The Bloodhounds got to within a point on several occasions, most recently at 9-8, but the Bearcats rallied off a 7-0 spurt to pull away late.
 
In the second set, Baruch went on a 5-0 rally to take a 3-3 tie and transform it into an 8-3 advantage en route to taking a comfortable lead to win the set.
 
John Jay scored the first point of the third set, but Baruch scored the next five to take a 5-1 lead and finished off the set.
 
Baruch was paced by Nicole Baruffaldi with eight kills, while Myra Estepan and Staren Soanes had four each.
