Women’s Basketball Loses Non Conference Affair at Vassar

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. --- The John Jay women's basketball team were limited to season lows in field goals made, three point field goals made and total points as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Vassar College, 60-30, at Vassar College on Saturday.

With the loss, John Jay is now 1-5 on the season.

The Bloodhounds were limited to eight field goals made and shot a season low 14 percent (8-for-57) from the field.

After both teams went scoreless for the first two and a half minutes, the host Brewers got on the board at the 17:25 marker of the first half on a lay-up by Kristyn Tempora who had four points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

John Jay cut the lead in half on a free throw by Jessica Lirio, but that was a close as the Bloodhounds would get as the host Brewers went on an 11-0 run to take a 13-1 lead capped off on a three point field goal by Carolyn Crampton who chipped in with 13 points and a team co-high four assists.

The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to as little as eight on several possessions in the first half, most recently at the 8:09 point on a lay-up by Dominique Grice, who scored a team-high eight points and was the lone Bloodhound to connect on more than one field goal (3-for-18), to make the score 17-9.

But Vassar answered with a 10-0 run to go up 27-9 with 4:47 to play in the first half before going into halftime up 28-11.

John Jay outscored Vassar 8-6 over the first four plus minutes of the second half to pull to within 15 (34-19) with 15:49 to play on a Grice lay-up.

But the Brewers answered with an 11-0 run to go up 45-19 with 11:37 to play, and Vassar would maintain a 20 plus point lead from there.
