Center Valley, Pa.— Fresh off a 3000 mile cross country trip to California last week, the John Jay men's basketball team was back on the road this weekend and fell to nationally ranked DeSales Univ., 86-53, on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) scored 14 points off the bench giving him exactly 900 for his career. Chris Jaeger (Hicksville, NY, Hicksville) paced the Bloodhounds with team highs 15 points and 10 rebounds.

John Jay is now 3-8 on the season, while DeSales, ranked 25th in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll, is 9-0.

The host Bulldogs led most of the way en route to victory. They took an 11-6 lead four and a half minutes into the contest before John Jay answered with a run of its own, a 6-0 spurt to go up 12-11 with 13:05 to play on a jumper by Jaeger.

But it would be the only lead of the night for the Bloodhounds, as DeSales used a 9-0 run to take a 20-12 lead with 8:58 to go, and the Bulldogs never trailed again.

DeSales had five players in double figures and were led by Ed Labinski who scored a game-high 20 points.

The Bulldogs increased its lead to as much as 16 and they led 36-20 at halftime, closing out the first half on a 16-4 run.

The Bloodhounds never got to within less than 17 points of the lead in the second half as DeSales, who shot 53.2 percent from the floor in the contest, connected on 57.6 percent in the second half. The Bloodhounds shot 40 percent from the field in the contest.

DeSales held a 31-11 advantage in points off turnovers and out scored John Jay 17-4 in fastbreak points.

John Jay returns to action on Sun. Jan. 4 to face Immaculata Univ. in the consolation game of the DeSales Tournament at 2 p.m.
