Men's Basketball Limited to Season Low 40 Points in Loss at Baruch

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team was held to a season low 40 points on Friday evening and the Bloodhounds were defeated as the Bloodhounds lost to Baruch College, 64-40, at Baruch's ARC Arena.

John Jay, now 4-10 (1-3 CUNYAC), were led by Ryan Olsen (Huntington, NY, St. John the Baptist) with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting, as John Jay was limited to a season low 25 percent shooting (15-for-59).

The host Bearcats were in command from the outset. With the score tied 6-6, Baruch used an 11-3 run to take a 17-9 lead with 12:17 to play and the lead swelled to as much as 14 in the final stages of the first half as Baruch led 35-21 at halftime.

Baruch then opened play in the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 45-23 lead with 14:54 remaining.

The Bloodhounds cut into the lead to within 18 (47-29) at the 10:06 mark on a lay-up by Chris Jaeger (Hicksville, NY, Hicksville), capping off a 6-2 run.

But the Bearcats countered with a 10-2 run to take a 57-31 lead with 7:07 remaining.

John Jay never got the deficit back to within 20 as the Bearcats ended John Jay's one game winning streak.

Baruch outscored John Jay 30-12 on points in the paint, including 22-4 in the first half, and held a 47-31 edge in rebounding. Jaeger led John Jay with seven rebounds to go along with six points. Baruch's George Kunkel grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 14 for a home match, the first of an eight game homestand, against Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
