Women’s Volleyball Falls at Home to Baruch

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's volleyball team lost in three on Tuesday as the Bloodhounds fell to conference foe Baruch College.

John Jay is now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play, while Baruch is now 6-3 (2-1 CUNYAC). The Bearcats won by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-13.

Andrea Medina (Brentwood, NY, Brentwood) led the way for John Jay with five kills and four digs, while Zadoora Carson (New York, NY, Urban Peace Academy), Justyna Kopec (Nowa Deba, Poland, Franklin D. Roosevelt), Aleksandra Fenik (Riga, Lativa, James Madison) and Jia Li Chen (Toyshan, China, HS for Duel Language & Asian Studies) added two kills each. Siobhan West (Manhasset, NY, Benjamin Cardozo) added six digs for the Bloodhounds.

The Bearcats took a big lead early in the first set behind the servicing of Carissa Hoover who nailed five consecutive service aces in the midst of an 8-0 rally that turned a 2-2 tie into a 10-2 Baruch lead.

Baruch led by as much as 10 in the set before winning by eight.

John Jay scored the first point in the second set for their lone lead in set two as Baruch rallied off three in a row to take a 3-1 lead. The Bloodhounds tied the set at 3-3, but Baruch went up 5-3 and led from there.

With Baruch already up 13-7 midway though the second set, the Bearcats rallied off nine in a row to go up 22-7 and win from there.

John Jay led 1-0 and 4-3 in the third set, but Baruch rallied off six in a row and took a 9-4 lead en route to victory.

Baruch was led by Lauren Hayden who had nine kills on 10 attacks with no errors (.900 attacking percentage), while Hoover had seven kills, five service aces and five digs. Posey Wilson had 13 digs for Baruch.

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 19 for a tri-match at Kean University starting at 11 a.m.
