Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay women's volleyball team went down to the end with the College of Staten Island (CSI) on Tuesday, but the Bloodhounds lost narrowly as they were defeated by conference foe, the College of Staten Island, 3-2.
John Jay, now 2-12 overall and 1-4 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play, won the first set 25-20 before losing the second set 25-21. John Jay went up 2-1 by winning the third set 25-21 before losing the fourth 25-18 to set the stage for their first five set match of the season. But CSI took a 3-0 lead in the final set and led from start to finish en route to winning 15-12.
Andrea Medina (Brentwood, NY, Brentwood) led the way for John Jay with 14 kills and 26 digs, while Jessica Davies (Brawley, CA, Indio) and Justyna Kopec had nine kills each.
Medina's 26 digs was a game co-high as the Bloodhounds registered 85 digs in the contest. Erica Lee (New York, NY, Seward Park) added 12 digs to go along with 34 assists, while Crystal Reyes (Bronx, NY, DeWitt-Clinton) and Siobhan West (Manhasset, NY, Benjamin Cardozo) had nine digs each.
CSI was led by Joanna Tepedino with 21 kills and 17 digs, while fellow teammate Alba Basha had 27 assists and 26 digs.
John Jay returns to action on Thu. Oct. 1 for a home contest against the College of St. Elizabeth at 6 p.m.
