New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated on the road as the Bloodhounds lost to Baruch College 83-63 on Wednesday evening.
The loss leaves John Jay at 1-18 (1-8 CUNYAC) this season.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) and
Daniel Desir (Jamaica, NY, Jamaica) who both registered double-doubles as Mason knocked in 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Desir had 18 points and 10 boards.
The host Bearcats scored the first 11 points of the game en route from leading start to finish. Baruch led by as much as 25 in the first half and was up 40-15 with 5:54 to play.
John Jay cut into the lead in the latter stages of the stanza and outscored Baruch 15-3 over the final five minutes of the first half to get to within 13 points of the lead before trailing by 15 at halftime at 45-30.
The Bloodhounds cut further into the deficit in the second half and pulled to within eight with 15:27 to go as John Jay trailed 49-41 capping an 11-2 run.
But Baruch reclaimed a double-figure lead and led by as much as 21 in the second half before the final buzzer.
Baruch was led by
Lionel Hilaire with 23 points.
The Bearcats outscored John Jay 36-14 in points off turnovers and 34-4 on points off the bench.
John Jay is back in action on Mon. Feb. 1 at New Jersey City University at 8 p.m.
