Justyna Kopec (Nowa Deba, Poland, Franklin D. Roosevelt), playing in her final regular season home match at the Doghouse, had a memorable match on Tuesday as she served a career-high 17 of John Jay's 29 aces to help lead the Bloodhounds to a win as John Jay was victorious over SUNY Maritime 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-15).
Kopec served up seven service aces in the first set, including five during John Jay's 8-0 rally to start the match. She then terrorized the opponent with eight in the second set, which included four in the Bloodhounds' 6-0 rally to start the second set. She closed out her solid evening with two more aces in the third set.
Meanwhile
Martina Hot (Glendale, NY, Academy of American Studies) served up eight service aces in the match and had a .412 attack percentage (eight kills, one error, 17 attacks), while
Rosmery Martinez (Santo Domingo, DR, James Madison)had a match-high nine kills and four digs.
The Bloodhounds never trailed in any set as they started out the first set with an 8-0 lead, the second set with a 9-0 lead and third set with a 5-0 lead en route to their second sweep of the season.
SUNY Maritime was led by
Jerrica Romero with three kills and nine digs in the contest.
John Jay returns to action on Thu. Oct. 7 at SUNY Old Westbury at 7 p.m.
