New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated at home Tuesday night, losing to Hunter College 81-63 in front of a packed Doghouse for Homecoming.
With the loss, John Jay is now 4-1 (0-1 CUNYAC) this season, while Hunter improves to 3-2 (1-0 CUNYAC).
Isaiah Holman and
Jerome Alexander scored 16 points apiece in the contest, while
Jamar Harry had eight and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Hunter was led by Anthony Uter with 14 points.
The visiting Hawks led most of the first half, and after a see-saw battle in the opening stages, Hunter used a 13-1 run to turn a one point deficit into an 11 point lead as they led 21-10 with 9:49 to go.
Hunter led by as much as 13 points in the first half, before the Bloodhounds started to chip away at the lead and get back into the contest.
After falling behind 30-17, John Jay closed out the first half on a 19-6 run to tie the game at halftime.
The Bloodhounds led briefly in the second half. But Hunter pulled away midway through the second half, using a 10-0 run to go back up by double-digits. Hunter continued to increase the lead and spurted away to lead by as much as 27 with 5:27 to play as the Hawks led 75-48 at that moment.
Hunter kept the Bloodhounds at bay the rest of the way en route to winning the contest.
The Hawks outscored John Jay 45-27 in the second half, and outscored the Bloodhounds 39-14 in points off the bench.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Dec. 3 at Connecticut College at 6 p.m.
