Men's Basketball Falls to Albright in Opening Round of Holiday Tournament

Reading, Pa.— The John Jay men's basketball team, playing for the first time in more than two and a half weeks, lost on the road Wednesday evening, losing to Albright College 106-79 in the opening round of the 2010 Albright College Holiday Tournament.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to under .500 for the first time this season as they are now 5-6 overall, while Albright is now 7-3 on the season. John Jay will play in the consolation game against Susquehanna University in the consolation game at 2 p.m., while the host Lions will play for the championship at 4 p.m. against Hunter College.

The Bloodhounds were paced by four players to score in double-figures and were led by Jamar Harry who had team-highs 17 points and eight rebounds. Meanwhile Jerome Alexander netted 15, Isaiah Holman 13 and Lionel Lorquet with 12.

John Jay took the lead early in the contest and led by as much as three in the opening stages of the game.

But the Lions broke the game open with a 15-0 run over a four minute span through the middle stages of the first half to take a 27-12 lead.

Albright continued to increase the lead in the first half and led by as much as twenty-six in the final minute of the opening stanza before going into halftime up 50-26.

The Lions kept a twenty-plus point lead through the entire second half before the game ended. Albright led by as much as thirty-eight in the second half.

The Lions got seventy points off the bench and outscored the Bloodhounds 70-20 amongst the non starters, including a 30-0 advantage in the first half.

Albright was led by Derek Hall with 15 points, followed by Tom Paul and Zach Benjamin who both had 12 off the bench.

Albright College shot 55.4 percent from the field (41-for-74), including 60.6 percent (20-for-33) in the first half.
