Men's Basketball Falls to Connecticut College in Day One of Camel Cadet Classic

New London, Conn.— After winning four consecutive non conference games to start the season, the John Jay men's basketball team lost its first non league affair of the season as the Bloodhounds lost to Connecticut College 77-61 on day one of the Citizens Bank Camel / Cadet Classic on Friday.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds stand at 4-2 overall the season. Connecticut College is now 2-3.

The Bloodhounds dug themselves a huge hole early, and the slow start proved too much to overcome. The host Camels limited John Jay to a season-low 15 points in the first half. Connecticut College, who never trailed in the contest, led 34-15 at halftime.

The Camels scored the first eight points of the game and held John Jay to just 18.5 percent shooting (5-for-27) in the first half. Connecticut led by as much as 22 in the first half and were up 34-12 with 2:09 to go before going into halftime with a 19-point lead.

The Bloodhounds chipped away at its deficit in the second half and pulled to within and were down 57-48 with 8:10. But that would be as close as John Jay would get. The Camels spurted away with an 8-0 run to go up by 17 and Connecticut led 65-48 with 6:07 to play.

John Jay never again got to within single digits of the lead.

The Bloodhounds were led by Jamar Harry with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Jerome Alexander added 24 and eight boards. The duo combined for 80.3 percent of the team's points. Shamil Duran was the next leading scorer with six.

Connecticut College was led by Matt Vadas with 24 points and eight rebounds.

John Jay is back in action on Saturday for day two of the Citizens Bank Camel / Cadet Classic where they will play at the United States Coast Guard Academy at 3 p.m.
