Men’s Basketball Loses to Susquehanna in Consolation Game of Tournament

Reading, Pa.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated for the second time in as many days as the Bloodhounds lost to Susquehanna University 100-73 in the consolation game of the Reading Crowne Plaza New Year's Eve tournament hosted by Albright College.

With the loss, John Jay falls to 5-7 overall this season and have lost seven of its last eight contests after starting the season 4-0.

Jamar Harry paced the Bloodhounds with 26 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocks, while Isaiah Holman chimed in with 16 points. Jerome Alexander was the only other Bloodhound to score in double figures with 11.

Susquehanna, who lost its opening round match to Hunter College, was led by Spenser Spencer off the bench with 20 points. Four other members of the Crusaders notched double figures including Harvey Pannel with 14, J.T Wilson and Harley Sellinger with 12 each, and Rob Estep with 10.

The Crusaders led from start to finish in the contest. They scored the first nine points of the game and led 9-0 3:01 into the contest.

John Jay pulled to within as little as six and trailed 14-8 with 13:32 to go after a basket by Lionel Lorquet.

Susquehanna went back up by double-digits moments later. The Bloodhounds got to within as little as nine points of the lead later in the first half and trailed 28-19 with 8:28 to go.

But the Crusaders went on an 11-0 run to take a 39-19 lead with 5:28 to go and maintained a sizable lead the rest of the way. Susquehanna led by as much as 22 in the later stages of the first half and led by that amount at halftime up 51-29.

The Crusaders never led by less than 21 in the second half. Susquehanna led by as much as 34 in the final stanza and led 84-50 with 8:09 to play before ending the game with a 27-point victory.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 5, 2011 for a home game against conference foe Baruch College at 7 p.m.
