Men’s Basketball Loses to Hunter

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team allowed a season-high 108 points, including 67 in the second half in a home loss on Friday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Hunter College 108-82 at the Doghouse. 

John Jay was led by Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) with a career-high 34 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream) added 14. Lionel Lorquet (Rosedale, NY, St. John's Prep) chipped in with 10. 

Both teams combined to go to the free-throw line 65 times (33 for John Jay and 32 for Hunter) and both schools shot well as Hunter went 25-for-32 (78.1 percent) and John Jay went 28-for-33 (84.8 percent).
The Hawks shot 55.9 percent from the floor in the contest (38-for-68), including 66.7 percent (22-for-33) in the second half. 

Hunter outscored John Jay 21-8 on fast break points. 

The first half was tightly contested and the first twenty minutes saw six lead changes and four ties.
Hunter led by two at halftime at 41-39. 

The Hawks led the entire second half and broke the game open in the early stages of the stanza. 

Hunter outscored John Jay 16-5 over the first five minutes of the second half to take a 57-44 lead with 15:08 to go and never looked back.

Hunter increased its advantage throughout the remainder of the second half and led by as much as 27 before the game ended. 

It was the third time this season John Jay allowed a team to score more than 100 points in a game.
Hunter was led by Rocco Rubino and Eric Klingsberg with 28 points each. 

The Bloodhounds wrap up the 2009-10 season on Mon. Feb. 15 for a home contest against Medgar Evers College at 8 p.m.
