Men’s Basketball Ends 2009-10 Season with Loss to Medgar Evers

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team closed out its 2009-10 season with a loss on Monday evening as the Bloodhounds lost to Medgar Evers College 83-61 at the Doghouse. 

John Jay was led by Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith), playing his final game as a Bloodhound, with 32 points as he exits John Jay with 1283career points leaving him sixth all-time in John Jay annals. He added a team-high 12 rebounds in the contest for his ninth double-double this season. Freshman forward Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream) added 13 points for the Bloodhounds. 

The Bloodhounds were down 38-30 at halftime and never led in the contest. The Cougars led by as much as 15 in the first half. 

John Jay was within five early in the second half and trailed 40-35 with 17:39 to go. But Medgar Evers used a 7-0 run to go up 12 and the Cougars led 47-35. 

The Bloodhounds pulled back to within as little as seven and trailed 54-47 with 12:06 to go. But an 8-0 run by Medgar Evers put the Cougars up 62-47 with 9:32 to play. 

Medgar Evers continued to increase its lead and followed suit with a 7-0 run (15-2 total) to grab a 20-point advantage and led 69-49 with 5:37 to play. 

The Cougars held a 48-18 advantage on points in the paint and outscored John Jay 26-14 on points off turnovers. 

Medgar Evers, who shot 55.9 percent (19-for-34) in the second half, was led by Ronald Holloway with 24 points, while Winston Douglas added 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
