Mahwah, N.J.— The John Jay men's basketball team allowed 57 first half points en route to allowing a season-high 105 as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Ramapo College on Monday, losing 105-80 at the Bradley Center.
John Jay, now 1-22, was led by
Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) with 22 points and eight rebounds, while
Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream) chipped in with 14.
David Williams (Jamaica, NY, Martin Luther King) came off the bench and chipped in with 10.
The host Roadrunners shot 58.4 percent from the floor (45-for-77) in the contest and held a 48-26 edge in rebounding and a 36-18 advantage in points off turnovers.
Ramapo scored the first nine points in the contest and led from start to finish.
The Roadrunners established a 13-2 lead with just under three minutes gone by to set the tone.
The Bloodhounds stayed with the speedy Roadrunners in the early stages. They raced back and got to within three point of the lead and were down 17-14 with 12:34 to go, capping a 12-4 run.
But Ramapo raced ahead once again and established a large lead in the latter stages of the first half. The Roadrunners closed out the opening stanza on an 8-0 run in the final two minutes to take their biggest lead of the half and Ramapo led by 21 (57-36) at halftime.
Ramapo, who used 17 players in the contest and none played more than 25 minutes, gradually pulled away in the second half and led by as much as 34 over the final twenty minutes before it ended.
The Roadrunners were led by
Andre Kenny and
LaQuan Peterkin with 19 points each.
John Jay is back in action on Wed. Feb. 10 for a home contest against Medgar Evers College at 7 p.m.
