Women’s Volleyball Splits a Pair of Conference Matches at CUNYAC-Multi Match

Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay women's volleyball team earned its first win of the season as the Bloodhounds split a pair of conference matches at the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) multi-match on Saturday afternoon. The Bloodhounds lost their first match in three sets to the City College of New York (CCNY) 25-14, 25-12, 25-8, before defeating the College of Staten Island (CSI) 25-20, 25-23, 26-24.

With the split, the Bloodhounds are now 1-4 (1-1 CUNYAC) this season.

Statistics for the match against CCNY are not available at this time.

Against CSI, John Jay was led by Justyna Kopec (Nowa Deba, Poland, Franklin D. Roosevelt) with 11 kills (two errors) on 29 attack attempts (.310 hitting percentage), while Martina Hot (Glendale, NY, Academy of American Studies) had eight kills. Rosmery Martinez (Santo Domingo, DR, James Madison) added four kills and a pair of service aces.

The Bloodhounds had a season –high 16 service aces, including six from Kathleen Estevez (New York, NY, Bayside), four from Kepec and three from Rocio Chavira (Bronx, NY, Fashion Industries).

Joanna Tepedino had six kills and 13 digs to lead CSI.

John Jay returns to action on Tue. Sept. 14 at Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
