Women’s Volleyball Loses Two Matches at Home in Tri Match

William Paterson vs. Manhattanville

New York, N.Y.— In its 2010 home opener the John Jay women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches at a tri-match at the Doghouse as the Bloodhounds lost 3-0 to William Paterson University (25-7, 25-3, 25-15) before falling to Manhattanville College 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-16). In the other match on the afternoon, William Paterson defeated Manhattanville 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-13, 25-16).

With the losses, John Jay is now 1-7 overall, while William Paterson is 8-1. Manhattanville is 5-4 overall now.

In the match against William Paterson, Martina Hot (Glendale, NY, Academy of American Studies) led the Bloodhounds with four kills to go along with a service ace. Meanwhile, fellow teammate Justyna Kopec (Nowa Deba, Poland, Franklin D. Roosevelt)had three kills and eight digs. Rocio Chavira (Bronx, NY, Fashion Industries) had a team-high 10 digs, while Kathleen Estevez (New York, NY, Bayside) had seven.

Kim Runge led the Pioneers with 10 kills, while Michelle Leeder had 20 digs.

William Paterson had a .411 hitting percentage in the three set win (34 kills, four errors, 73 attacks).

Against Manhattanville, Rosmery Martinez (Santo Domingo, DR, James Madison) had seven kills and 10 digs, while Kopec had 11 digs. Crystal Reyes (Bronx, NY, DeWitt-Clinton) had 12 assists.

For Manhattanville, Makana Gomes had team highs eight kills, 19 assists and eight digs. Damaris Morales and Maggie Black had six kills each.

In the neutral site match, Runge had 16 kills for William Paterson, while Gomes had 11 kills and 19 digs for the Valiants.

John Jay returns to action on Tue. Sept. 21 against conference foe Hunter College at the Doghouse at 6 p.m.
