Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost a contest at Brooklyn College on Thursday evening, losing to the Bulldogs 95-78 at Brooklyn's West Quad Center.
With the loss, John Jay is now 7-12 (2-6 CUNYAC) this season.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jerome Alexander with 21 points and eight rebounds, while
Isaiah Holman and
Jamar Harry netted 15 each in the contest.
Brooklyn had five players score in double figures and were led by Tyshawn Russell with 23 points.
The host Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead early and led 22-8 with less than seven minutes gone by.
But the Bloodhounds hung around in the first half and battled all the way back and took the lead momentarily in the final moments.
Down 29-17, John Jay rallied off a 13-0 run to take its first lead of the night and the Bloodhounds led 30-29 with 5:56 to play.
John Jay went back and forth with the defending conference champions over the final six minutes before Brooklyn went into halftime with a 45-42 lead.
Brooklyn College opened the second half on a 13-2 run and took a 58-44 lead with 15:11 to play.
The Bulldogs maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the contest. John Jay got to within eight points of the lead with 9:03 to play as the Bloodhounds trailed 67-59.
But Brooklyn responded with a 16-4 run to go up by twenty. The Bulldogs led by as much as 23 before the contest ended.
Brooklyn held a 51-38 advantage in rebounding and were led by Steve Grant with 10 boards.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Jan. 28 at Medgar Evers College at 8 p.m.
