Men's Basketball Loses at Medgar Evers College

Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost on the road Friday evening as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Medgar Evers College 88-68 at the Cougar Cave on Friday evening.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds are now 7-13 (2-7 CUNYAC) this season.

The five starters for John Jay all scored in double figures and combined for 62 of the Bloodhounds' 66 points.

Isaiah Holman netted 15 points, while Matt Collins scored 14. Jerome Alexander, Irving Abbott and Justin Alleyne had 11 each for John Jay.

The host Cougars were led by Jovan Deare with 18 points, followed by Jarrel Deare with 15.

Both schools held their share of the lead in the first half. But with the Bloodhounds up 20-19 midway through the period, Medgar Evers went on a 16-3 run to go up by twelve, its biggest lead of the contest at that point and the Cougars were up 35-23 with 2:48 to go.

John Jay trimmed the lead to eight before halftime as the Cougars led 40-32.

Medgar Evers maintained the lead in the second half. Up by four at 42-38, the Cougars went on a 22-2 run to take a 64-40 lead with 11:28 to play.

The Bloodhounds never got to within less than seventeen points of the lead the rest of the way as Medgar Evers improved to 6-2 in conference play this season.

The Cougars outscored John Jay 50-20 on points in the paint and 25-10 on second chance points. Medgar Evers outrebounded the Bloodhounds 61-30 in the contest.

John Jay returns to action on Monday January 31 for a home contest against William Paterson University at 7 p.m.
