New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team fell behind by a large margin early and trailed the entire contest as the Bloodhounds lost at home to Ramapo College 73-46 on Monday evening.
With the loss, John Jay is now 9-11 this season, while Ramapo improves to 12-8 overall.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jessica Lirio with 17 points and six steals while playing the entire contest. With her 17 points, she upped her career total to 977, leaving her just 23 shy of 1,000 for her career.
Dominique Grice added 13 points in the contest, while
Jamecia Forsythe had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Ramapo College was led by Alexa Ryan with 34 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
The visiting Roadrunners opened the game on a 19-3 run to open a sixteen point lead with just less than eight minutes gone by.
Ramapo led by as much as 19 points in the first half and led by that amount on three occasions. They were up 26-7 with 6:47 to play before John Jay slithered into the lead.
The Bloodhounds used an 8-1 run to pull to within twelve points of the lead with 3:16 to play as Ramapo led 27-15. But the Bloodhounds could never get its deficit to under double digits.
Ramapo closed out the final three minutes on a 10-4 spurt to go up by 18 as the Roadrunners held a 37-19 lead at halftime.
The Roadrunners kept the Bloodhounds at bay during the final twenty minutes of play. John Jay got to within 15 points of the lead and were down 39-24 with 16:39 to go.
Ramapo then outscored John Jay 13-5 over the five minutes and took a 52-29 lead.
The Bloodhounds slithered into the lead again in the middle stages of the second half and pulled to within 17 points of the lead with 5:37 to play with the score 59-42.
But Ramapo ran away again finished out the game on a 14-4 run to lead by its biggest margin en route to a twenty-seven point win.
Ramapo dominated inside with a 38-22 advantage on points in the paint. And the Roadrunners held a 15-3 advantage on second chance points.
Ramapo doubled up John Jay in rebounding with a 52-26 advantage.
John Jay returns to action on Wed. Feb. 2 for a conference game at Hunter College at 5 p.m.
