New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost to Baruch College at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening, 81-71.
With the loss, John Jay is now 5-8 (0-2 CUNYAC) this season, while Baruch improves to 7-5 (2-0 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jerome Alexander with 23 points and seven rebounds, while
Jamar Harry added 13 off the bench and six rebounds.
Baruch was led by Lionel Hilaire with 27 points, while Chris Beauchamp added 22 and six rebounds. Sean Loftus knocked in 12 and had a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Bearcats scored the first five points of the game, but it was the Bloodhounds who led most of the first half.
Baruch led 7-6 early on before the Bloodhounds used a 6-0 spurt to go up 12-7 with 15:33 to play.
John Jay never trailed again in the first half and led by as much as 10 and the Bloodhounds were up 36-26 with 4:55 to play.
The Bloodhounds outscored Baruch 14-2 on second chance points in the first half and outrebounded the Bearcats 20-14 in the stanza. The Bloodhounds led 40-35 at halftime.
John Jay kept the lead early in the second half before Baruch finally grabbed its first lead of the stanza with 12:08 to play and were up 51-49.
The game remained close, but John Jay never led again. The Bloodhounds tied the contest twice more, most recently with 7:05 to play on a Harry lay-up that made the score 58-58.
But Baruch went on a 16-5 run to take a 74-63 lead with 2:35 to play. The Bearcats extended the lead to as much as 12 in the final minute before leaving the Doghouse with a 10-point win.
John Jay returns to action on Friday January 7 at Lehman College at 5:30 p.m.
