New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's volleyball team picked up its first win at home this season and second overall as the Bloodhounds rolled to a three set win over SUNY Maritime at the Doghouse on Thursday evening. John Jay defeated the Privateers 25-18, 28-26, 25-15.

In the win, the Bloodhounds were led by Martina Hot with a match-high nine kills to go along with seven digs. Meanwhile, Dulce Aybar and Kathleen Estevez had seven kills each, while Aybar slammed four service aces. Renauta Sailsman had six service aces in the win to go along with seven digs.

The Bloodhounds fell behind early in the first set and were down 3-1. But John Jay hung around and went back and forth in the set. The Bloodhounds took the lead for good by scoring five out of six points to turn a 13-13 tie into an 18-14 lead en route to victory.

In the second set, John Jay was on cruise control much of the way. After trailing 7-2, the Bloodhounds rallied off eight in a row to take a 10-7 advantage. The lead continued to increase and John Jay was up 21-12 and in control before things began to unravel. The Privateers rallied off nine straight to tie the score at 21-21. The Bloodhounds retook the lead momentarily before Maritime took a 23-22 lead. Both teams remained within a point of each other until a kill by Hot ended it.

The Bloodhounds trailed briefly in the third set, but otherwise coasted to the win. Down 5-4, John Jay capitalized on three straight SUNY Maritime attacking errors to take a 7-5 lead and never look back.

John Jay had a season-high 30 kills (includes matches that have gone more than three sets).
