New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team played a hard fought game in front of a packed ARC Arena at Baruch. But a 19-6 Baruch run midway through the first half proved too much to overcome as the Bloodhounds fell to the Bearcats 72-62 on Thursday night.

With the loss, John Jay is 10-14 (3-9 CUNYAC) with one regular season game remaining, a home game against Lehman College on Saturday.

The Bloodhounds were led by Jamar Harry with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Jerome Alexander added 13 points and seven boards.

Baruch was led by Chris Beauchamp with 17 points off the bench.

The host Bearcats never trailed in the contest. They scored the first five points of the game to take the early lead.

But John Jay went back and forth in the early stages of the contest. Despite never holding the lead, the Bloodhounds never trailed by more than two possessions.

Down 18-16 midway through the first half, Baruch spurted away with a 19-6 run that gave the Bearcats a fifteen point lead with 2:15 to go.

The Bloodhounds tallied off the final six points of the opening stanza, capped by a three point field goal at the buzzer by Isaiah Holman as John Jay went into halftime down 35-26.

John Jay and Baruch traded baskets for much of the second half. Baruch grabbed an 11-point lead with 17:16 to go and the Bearcats led 40-29 at that point.

But the Bloodhounds chipped away at the lead and narrowed the deficit all the way to three as the Bloodhounds trailed 46-43 with 11:22 to go.

Baruch pulled away again and had a nine point lead at 54-45 with 8:59 remaining.

John Jay continued to trade baskets and misses with Baruch and only managed to pull to within six in the middle stages of the second half.

The Bloodhounds, behind a 6-0 run, pulled to within three with 1:26 to go capped by back to back put-back lay-ups by Lionel Lorquet which made the score 65-62.

But Baruch answered the call on the other end. A continuation three point play but the Bearcats back up by a half dozen, and John Jay failed to connect on its shots in the closing moments as Baruch closed out the game on a 7-0 to secure the win.

Baruch shot 52.8 percent (28-for-53) in the contest, including 60 percent (15-for-25) in the first half.

John Jay held a 44-34 advantage on points in the paint.
