Men’s Basketball Loses Regular Season Finale to Lehman

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team closed out its 2010-11 regular season with a loss at home to Lehman College, 79-62, at the Doghouse on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, John Jay ends the regular season 9-16 overall and 3-8 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. The Bloodhounds have earned the No. 8 seed for the 2010-11 Con Edison / CUNYAC men's basketball championship and will play at No. 1 College of Staten Island on Sunday at a time to be announced.

In Saturday's loss, Jamar Harry led the way with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds as he was the only Bloodhound to notch double figures in points or rebounds. Jerome Alexander and Irving Abbott netted nine points each in the contest.

Lehman was led by Jonathan deJesus with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Victor Garcia had a game-high 23 points. Chukwuma Ndukwe added 21 points and eight rebounds for the Lightning.

Lehman led the contest from start to finish. The Lightning struck fast and opened the game on a 13-2 run to set the tempo.

The Bloodhounds slithered into the run and pulled to within as few as five at several times in the first half. The latest five point deficit was a 23-18 Lehman lead with 6:37 to play.

But Lehman kept its lead at arms length distance before going into halftime up 37-28.

Lehman opened the second half extending the lead to double figures in the early stages. John Jay got as close as seven points, but no closer.

Up 48-39, Lehman outscored John Jay 15-7, to push the advantage to 16 points, its biggest lead of the game at that moment, with 8:50 to play.

Lehman maintained a double figure lead the rest of the way before the game ended.

The Lightning held a 44-24 advantage on points in the paint and 24-13 on points off turnovers.
