New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team allowed a season-high 99 points and were defeated by thirty-three in the process as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Lehman College 99-66 at the Doghouse on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, John Jay falls to 10-14 overall with one regular season game remaining, a non conference affair at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday. And the Bloodhounds end the conference season with a 7-6 record in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. John Jay has also earned the No. 4 seed for the 2010-11 Con Edison / CUNYAC women's basketball championship and will await to play either York or Hunter next Saturday at the Doghouse.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jessica Lirio with 20 points, while
Jamecia Forsythe came off the bench and had a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Dominique Grice chimed in with 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Lehman had three players earn double-doubles and were led by Louvinia Hayes with 37 points and 13 rebounds. Amanda De La Cruz had 22 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists, while Jaleesa Gordon added 20 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.
The visiting Lightning led from start to finish in the contest. Lehman took a big lead off the opening tap and started play scoring twenty of the first twenty-two points. The Bloodhounds fought back to get into the game and used a 14-5 run to pull to within nine points of the lead and John Jay trailed 25-16.
But Lehman quickened the tempo and raced away 14-3 run to take a 20-point lead and the Lightning were up 39-19. Lehman maintained a comfortable lead for the rest of the half before going into halftime up 50-33.
John Jay scored the first five points of the second half and pulled to within twelve after a three point field goal by
Allana Beddoe made the score 50-38.
But Lehman quickly raced away again and upped the lead to 21 with just over five minutes gone by in the stanza and the Lightning led 66-45.
Lehman maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way en route to securing the No. 3 seed for the conference championship.
Lehman held an overwhelming advantage in the paint outscoring John Jay 58-20 inside. The Lightning held a 66-51 rebounding edge.
