New York, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team has earned the No. 8 seed for the 2010-11 City University of New York Athletic Conference / Con Edison men's basketball championship and the Bloodhounds will being their title run this Sunday when they face No. 1 seed College of Staten Island in the quarterfinal round at 1 p.m.
With a win there, the Bloodhounds will advance to the semifinal round of the tournament and face the winner between No. 4 seed Brooklyn College and No. 5 York College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Then with another victory, John Jay advances to the championship round on February 26 at 5 p.m. Both the semifinals and finals will be played at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of the City College of New York.
This season, John Jay, who finished 9-16 overall, earned three conference wins, including a sweep over North Division rival CCNY and a victory against New York City College of Technology.
The Bloodhounds have been led this season by their All-Star combination of
Jerome Alexander and
Jamar Harry.
Alexander, who was named a CUNYAC second team All-Star, led the team and was third in the conference in scoring at 19.4 points per game, while finishing second on the team and was in the top 20 in CUNYAC rebounding at 5.5 caroms per game. He also chimed in with 3.8 assists per game.
Harry, who was named CUNYAC's Rookie of the Year, averaged 16.0 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He was second in the conference in field goal percentage at .581.
While the Bloodhounds will need big performances out of their all conference players, John Jay will also expect big play from the rest of the team, including
