Box Score 2 New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's volleyball team opened its 2011 conference schedule with a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by the College of Staten Island and the City College of New York in the CUNYAC multi match at ARC Arena on the campus of Baruch College.
With the losses, the Bloodhounds remain in search of their first win of the season. They are 0-4 (0-2 CUNYAC). John Jay lost 3-1 to CSI (25-14, 22-25, 14-25, 14-25) and 3-0 to CCNY (11-25, 22-25, 22-25).
The Bloodhounds started the day outstanding, taking the opening set right to the College of Staten Island. It took John Jay just over twelve minutes to win the set as the Bloodhounds took the first set of the best of three match.
In the second set, John Jay took a quick lead again and seemed well on its way to a 2-0 lead. But the Dolphins hung around stayed within striking range before taking a late lead and win the set.
CSI took the momentum and proceeded to with the next two sets and win the match in four.
Against CCNY, the Beavers make quick work of the Bloodhounds in taking the first set 25-11. The second and third sets were close, but the Beavers had just enough to hold off the Bloodhounds en route to sweeping the nightcap.
Against CSI, the Bloodhounds were led by
Renauta Sailsman with 11 kills.
Martina Hot had four kills and eight digs, while
Katherine Bonilla had 11 digs and 18 assists.
Against CCNY, Hot had nine kills and eight digs, while Bonilla had 15 assists.
John Jay returns to action on Tuesday for a home match against another CUNYAC foe, Brooklyn College at 6 p.m.
